Should he stay or should he go?

There comes a time in every coach's career when he's faced with a tough decision. They say it's just part of the gig. Roy Williams had to face a tough decision when the UNC job was offered to him....twice. Not to mention the tough decision he had to make leaving UNC to coach Kansas to begin with.

Jerry Wainwright had to make a tough decision when he left UNCW for Richmond. Bill Self, when he left Illinois for Kansas. Bruce Pearl, when he left Wisconsin-Milwaukee for Tennessee.

But the common thing with all of those coaching moves were that the coach was moving on to a bigger and better program. I know I'll catch a lot of flack for calling Richmond better than UNCW, but face it folks, it is. They play in the A-10, a traditionally tougher league than the CAA.

Back to the main point, I think the difficult thing to deal with here, with all the rumors of Brad Brownell leaving UNCW for Ball State is that it's looked at as a lateral move, if not a step down.

Personally, I think he's selling himself short if he leaves for this job. But then again, I'm not him. I don't know how he thinks. I don't know how his family feels. I don't know what his situation is. Nobody does, really, except for him.

People should take into account the fact that Brad is from the state of Indiana. That's his home. How many people wouldn't love to go back home to do a job that you love?

The fact of the matter is this. We still don't know whether or not Brad Brownell is leaving UNCW. Hopefully, this story doesn't drag on forever and we get a definitive answer sometime in the next couple of days. A quicker solution is better for the program.

And no matter the reasons he may have for leaving, it is wrong to jump to conclusions and start laying blame on folks. It may not be anyone's fault. Maybe Brad just wants to go home.

I hate for brad to go, since our league now has a final four team in it. He should have a better recruiting class next year, and a lot of things he could do and prove in the CAA in years to come. He could build a power house if he stayed ten years and advance to the tourney like he has been doing. He has alot of upside here, more than his home town ball state has to offer. I think if he leaves we will be fine because I like Billy Dolon as a head coach. He brings brad and jerry combined skills, because he was under both of them. The program and the league is at a high, and it would not be wise to leave now. Just a thought

good point uncbuzz, it does not help his career. I know indiana has the hoosier's but, this is basketball country. This is the best basketball state. barnone!
Him and jim Laranaga can put that league on the map. Alot of kids go to shcools because of the coach. there is some pretty good coach's in the caa. There is more room to grow hear rather than a Ball state or wright state. I am a family man myself and if he leaves for that purpose cool. If he leaves because he thinks he is going to better his career, maybe he is not as smart as we all thought if he thinks leaving UNCW for those other schools is a good thing. Thats crazy atleast leave for a better school than those. I think he is a smart guy and I think he will stay. $215,000.000 compaired to ball state money will be what makes him stay. He has been here 12 years, and have a chance for good money. He is not going anywhere. In ten years wilmington with the help of brunswick county will boom and the counties will be a lot larger with more money and more people. The port and a numbers of others things coming to the wilmington area will put wilmington back on the map.My point is wilmington will blow up in ten years and by that time the uncw job will be up there with the ZAGS if not better. Atleast that is a posabilty that could happen.

If Coach Brownell stays it would be a great move for UNCW and maybe for him. But if he moves on to Ball State maybe he will be in a position that can lead to a bigger job in his home state! I know that I have made moves either lateral or back to reach a final goal. It depends on the determination that drives the moves. Maybe Coach Brownell has a plan that included his stay at UNCW and now it is time for the next step toward his goal! Either way he has served UNCW well and built a respected basketball program! He surely got me to pay attention to the CAA and UNCW. Before, all I thought that existed in NC was ACC basketball! Now I eagerly look through that papers for news of UNCW and CAA sports. That has to count for something!

the only other thing that it could be is he went there just see what he could get at another college or to get what he wants in his cotract. Sort of a bluff to get more money or something. I really do not know. I do know that the state of carolina is far better than indina. Indina=5 NCCAchamps

North Carolina=9 NCCAchamps

The dunk contest was cool. David Noel won with some creative dunks. Go heels! He should play football and be like R. Curry playing two sports and then playing pro football.
